GOSPEL AND MUSICAL SOUNDIES is a must-have for anyone who considers
themselves a fan of early rock and roll music.
From 1940 to 1946, ”soundies” (short musical films) were produced.
”Soundies” can be considered the precursors to music videos,
and were designed to be played on coin-operated 16mm rear
projection machines like jukeboxes.
They called Panorams and were located in nightclubs,
diners, roadhouses, bars, restaurants and other public places.
Besides musical numbers representing many different
musical styles; swing, big band, jazz, blues, gospel and more…

Artists; Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, Cab Calloway,
Les Hite and his orchestra and June Richmond,
Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, The Mills Brothers,
Bessie Smith and Ethel Waters.

The Story centers on Dori (Tuesday Weld) who is trying to get enough
money together for a prom dress after her father cuts off her charge
account.
This story pales in comparison to the performers featured in this film.

Legendary DJ Alan Freed introduces the acts and music at the prom with
performances by Chuck Berry, LaVerne Baker, Frankie Lyman and
the teenagers,The Johnny Burnette Trio,The Moonglows,
Jimmy Cavallo and the House Rockers, Cirino and the Bowties,
The Coney Island Kids,The Flamingos, and Teddy Randazzo.
An unknown Connie Francis provides the singing voice for Tuesday Weld.

H.C Andersen and Joseph Jacobs.
